I began my education with a BA in French from the University of New Brunswick. Then I became a photographer and graphic designer. I worked for at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at UNB, and as a photojournalist. Next I spent a very exciting year at the Rochester Institute of Technology studying photography in the BFA program. I returned to New Brunswick and worked as a photo technician for the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and as a freelance photographer.
I moved to Ottawa in 1985 and worked at the Canadian Government Photo Centre as both a photo technician and photo librarian. In 1989 I went back to university and completed bachelors and masters degrees in Computer Science at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. I stayed on at the University of Ottawa for a few years to work in research.
I began designing web sites around 1994 when the web was just beginning. At our university research lab we were experimenting with putting applications on the web. We were very excited when the first version of Netscape was released! A description of one of our early projects, Ikarus, an on-line cooperative knowledge base tool, is still available. A later knowledge base project, Fact Guru, is available to try on the web.
Since 1999 I have been working as a web designer, photographer and desktop publisher for a variety of clients.
I have experience with Dreamweaver, CSS, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Oracle, Microsoft Access, CGI and XML. I have programmed most recently using Perl, Visual Basic, C and Smalltalk.
I can offer a unique blend of artistic and technical skills that come together in the field of web design.
