As soon as I learned to spin I wanted to make my own spindles. I made them out of CD's, toy wheels, dowels, the crashed hard drive of my computer, bamboo, wood scraps and polymer clay. They all worked ok but they were not beautiful. Finally I tried making hand-turned spindles on the lathe and I was hooked. These spindles combine beautiful appearance and feel and excellent spinning qualities. I am proud to offer a few of my best spindles for sale.

I am very particular about my spindles. My first priority is that they spin well. I won't sell a spindle that I wouldn't be happy using myself. Each spindle is one of a kind.

All whorls are notched. All hooks are a modified shepherd's crook with a pigtail hand-made of brass wire. The hook design was developed through trial and error until I made one I am happy with. The yarn won't jump off the hook if you give it a good strong thigh-roll, a problem I had with some other hook designs.

This spindle invites you to fondle it. The rosewood whorl and cocobolo shaft are polished to a fine sheen. The shorter shaft is good for spinning while sitting down or in the car. The whorl is flat but it spins a long time because of the heavier weight of the rosewood. Very smooth spinner.
